When students asked me what my favorite season was I'd reply with, "I have two favorite seasons. In America my favorite season is fall, but in Japan my favorite season is spring." Now I wasn't trying to be a prick, I was just trying to give more than a one word answer to my students so I could test their listening comprehenshion. And it's totally true.
Fall has been my favorite season for as long as I can remember. Fall is the smell of burning leaves, Halloween, and football; none of which were really evident in Japan. The smell of burning rice fields and our little halloween celebrations for the kiddies of Hachinohe were decent replacements for the real thing, but there was no replacement for football. The lack of football in Japan and my love of drinking under cherry blossoms forced the switch of my favorite season.
I love football. And there is no better football than college football. What does it for me are the rivalries. Pro rivalries never seem as exciting as college rivalries; they just don't bring out the same emotion. At the moment I'm watching Arizona play against Arizona State for the Territorial Cup - the oldest official college rivalry in the country and it is AMAZING. I'm in my living room with my sister, both of us dressed in U of A paraphanelia, screaming at the top of our lungs. While it would've been ideal to be in Tucson for the game, me and my also unemployed sister were too poor to make the trip. So we'll just have to do with watching the game on this huge-ass HDTV my fam bought last year. This thing's taller than I am.
At the mo it's halftime and the Arizona Wildcats are down by 3. So I guess that means I have to cheer louder. GO CATS!!!!!!!!
